Innovators in Hong Kong are not just making groundbreaking science, they also make a difference through their work and impact the lives of those around them. Whether it’s creating new tools for healthcare or tackling the climate crisis, they are making the world a better place. Here are a few of their inspiring stories.

The Prize is open to anyone from Southeast Asia, mainland China or any other part of the world who is a student or young professional with a passion for exploring the world and advancing humanity through science. Starting March 1, applicants can visit the World of Winners splash page for a chance to win a free trip to Hong Kong – with winners announced in three waves. The competition is divided into three categories: Residents of Southeast Asia, Residents of Mainland China and International Applicants.

Taking on the heat

One of the most significant challenges for workers in Hong Kong is the extreme temperature, but a local engineer is tackling the problem head-on with an innovative cooling accessory that can help protect the body from high temperatures. The invention not only reduces worker discomfort, but it can even improve productivity and safety at construction sites.

Featured in the HKAI’s logo and on the trophies awarded to winners, this year’s Hong Kong Prize symbol juxtaposes two precious elements: a pearl and a pierced jade amulet, both of which have happy connotations in Chinese culture. This reflects the prize’s aim to recognise innovative solutions with both global appeal and local implications.

It is our honour to present the following awards to individuals and organisations for their efforts in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology and its contribution to society.

This year’s award winners reflect the many ways in which Hong Kong is leading the way in embracing green technologies. From the use of recycled materials to energy-efficient buildings, they are all reducing the environmental footprint of our city and promoting sustainable development.

Bringing peace and hope

Despite facing tremendous odds, these courageous Hong Kongers continue to uphold their principles. They are true heroes and an inspiration to the rest of us. We hope their example will encourage everyone to strive for more and never give up. They are the perfect candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize. We salute Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong for their fervent dedication to protecting freedoms in Hong Kong and fighting against the Chinese Communist Party’s repression. Their principled and peaceful activism demonstrates true Hong Kong spirit.
