These heroes might not be famous, but they are good Samaritans and selfless caregivers who make a difference to support the community. They have the genuine Hong Kong spirit of self-sacrifice, civic awareness, charity and goodwill, cultural preservation and innovation for good, and they inspire others with their courage and dedication.
Another highlight of the event was a screening of the documentary film She’s in Jail, directed by CFHK Foundation President Mark Clifford, which tells the story of Chow Hang-tung and her perseverance to stay positive through her years of imprisonment under an authoritarian regime. The film was well received by the audience, and a discussion session followed afterward.
The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) are a major annual event in the Hong Kong cinema industry. A film is eligible for nomination if it meets two criteria: the director and at least one member of the production team are residents of Hong Kong, or the film is made in Hong Kong. The judging panel includes the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), members of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society, and a selected group of international academics and experts in film studies.
After the judging, the results were announced and the winners were presented with their prizes by Hong Kong Post editor-in-chief Tammy Tam. The newspaper’s reporters won in a number of categories, including Best Science News Reporting for Sammy Heung’s series on the movers and shakers of Hong Kong’s scientific field, and Best Business News Reporting for Harvey Kong’s work on Hong Kong’s food truck industry.
