When you think of hongkong, shopping and dim sum might come to mind, but swimming pools aren’t likely to be top of mind. But this city of superlatives is loaded with picturesque watering holes — from the world’s highest pool to a natural infinity pond on a mountainside, here are some of Hong Kong’s coolest spots to splash around this summer.
Located on the sixth floor of the swanky Rosewood Hong Kong, this infinity pool is all about the view. The water almost reflects the famous skyline, creating the illusion of swimming in the harbor. Although the pool is typically only open to hotel guests, outsiders can enjoy this impressive rooftop experience during summer events (like their Sunset Pool Party).
Another incredible HK pool with an amazing location is the Man Cheung Po Swimming Pool, which sits on the edge of a cliff and waterfall in the heart of Sai Ying Pun. Located at the end of a family-friendly hiking trail, this crystal clear pool is a must-visit for locals looking to beat the summer heat and soak up some spectacular views.
A modern marvel, the Kennedy Town Swimming Pool was designed by the renowned architecture firm Farrells and opened earlier this year. The futuristic complex combines a 50-metre indoor pool and outdoor leisure pool, as well as indoor and outdoor massage baths. The pool is helping revitalize a run-down part of Kennedy Town, an historic district not far from downtown HK.
Most newer apartment developments in Hong Kong feature a swimming pool as one of the amenities. These are a great way for residents to relax and socialize with other residents, especially during the hot summer months.
If you’re moving to HK with your family, it’s worth considering the proximity of a public pool when choosing your new home. Many larger developments with multiple towers have a 50-metre outdoor pool and a smaller indoor pool, while single-tower complexes often have just a small outdoor pool – maybe too short for laps, but still fun for kids to splash around and burn off some energy.
In the future, Hong Kong’s waterscape could look a lot different as the city continues to grow and develop. In fact, the government recently unveiled a plan to build more high-rise buildings with pools on their roofs.
